Child Guard

Following is a story how the Child Guard was used. At the end of the story, you will find a bonus offer just for you.

"I cannot believe you are going to put that THING on our child." Amy leered at Craig.

He responded sheepishly, "but you know how Ryan likes to take off, honey. This bungee leash is the only way we'll be sure he doesn't get away from us!"

"We're going to a kiddie park," barked Amy, "not the Westminster Kennel Club!"

The doorbell rang. Craig skulked over to open the door for Amy's best friend, Sarah, and her daughter, Ashley.

After one look at Ryan, Ashley tugged on Sarah's trouser leg and asked, "Is Ryan gonna play doggie?"

"Craig, didn't I tell you that thing was a bad idea?" Sarah reached into her purse and produced a tiny plastic panda. "Here, I got an extra one of these, and it looks like you can use it."

Sarah told her friends that she worried about Ashley, too, but that she didn't want her to miss out on having fun in crowded places. She explained how the Child Guard alerts parents by beeping if a child strays more than a few feet away.

"Mommy says I need to hold on to my kitty," interrupted Ashley, showing off her cat-shaped Child Guard, on a ribbon around her neck.

"They're shaped like little pets, so the kids don't mind it when they're clipped to their clothes," said Sarah.

Craig studied the panda and wondered aloud, "but what happens when we're all using our Child Guards at the same time? How do we know what our kid's doing?"

"That's what's great about the system," said Sarah, "it scouts around for a clear frequency, so it doesn't interfere with anyone else's system. So, are we going to the park, or what?"

Later that afternoon, Ryan and Ashley played on a swing set while a trio of parents relaxed on a park bench. Ryan's panda and Ashley's kitty dangled from their necks in unison.

Ryan glanced up at a cloud, and heard the familiar sound of the ice cream truck pulling into the park. A split second later, the Child Guard receiver he had attached to his key ring started to beep.

"Like father, like son," deadpanned Amy.

Craig rushed off to scoop up Ryan on his dash for the sweets. As they saw another young child straining against a nylon harness, Craig reminded himself to thank Sarah for helping them enjoy the afternoon without that kind of embarrassment.

Cell Phone Stun Gun

Following is a story how the Cell Phone Stun Gun was used. At the end of the story, you will find a bonus offer just for you.

Rachel hated the subway. She grew up in a small town in Western Maryland, so she enjoyed being outside at every chance she could get.

As an attorney in the District of Coumbia, she often had to get to work at an hour that most folks were still dreaming in their beds. So she used the twelve-block walk from her apartment to her office as a chance to spend some quiet time enjoying her surroundings.

Still, she often felt a little nervous about walking those streets alone. So she picked up a Cell Phone Stun Gun.

It looks just like a regular phone, complete with a holster and a wrist strap. And nobody's going to question a well-dressed businessperson walking down the street holding a cell phone.

Rachel's intuition paid off one Thursday morning, when a junkie burst out from behind a dumpster and started screaming at her to hand over her purse. As she put her hands in the air, she used her thumb to disable the safety lock on the Cell Phone Stun Gun.

Rachel grabbed her purse with her other hand, tossing it past the criminal. As he bent over to pick it up, she jabbed the Cell Phone Stun Gun in the small of his back, shooting 180,000 volts of electricity through his body. She never even had to take it
out of its carrying case.

With her attacker curled up on the ground, Rachel pulled out her real cell phone to call the police. Her colleagues always wondered why she carried two cell phones. They usually assumed that a powerful woman needed them both. Rachel grinned as she realized they didn't know just how much power she really wielded.

Preventing Sexual Assault

Always be aware of your surroundings.

Stay in well-lit areas as much as possible.

Walk confidently, directly, at a steady pace. A rapist looks for someone who appears vulnerable.

Walk on the side of the street facing traffic.

Walk close to the curb. Avoid doorways, bushes and alleys where rapists can hide.

If you think you are being followed, walk quickly to areas where there are people and lights. If a car appears to be following you, turn and walk in the opposite direction or walk on the other side of the street.

Be careful when people stop you for directions or money. Always reply from a distance and never get too close to the car.

If you are in trouble or feel you are in danger, don't be afraid to attract help any way you can. Scream, yell or run away to safety.

Always lock your car. Keep your car locked when you are away from it to keep someone from hiding and waiting inside.

When you are inside the car, lock the doors for safety.

Look inside and around your car before you get in.

Be aware of other people in parking areas, especially those close to your vehicle.

If you think you are being followed, drive to a public place or a police station to get help.

If your car breaks down and you don't have your cell phone, open the hood or attach a white cloth to the antenna. If someone stops to help, stay inside your locked vehicle and ask them to call the police.

If you choose to carry any type of weapon for self-protection, give careful consideration to your ability and willingness to use it.

Glen Burnie Woman Brings Self-Defense Tools Home

USA Today Article - Posted 2/10/2009 9:50 AM ET
By Marc Shapiro

PASADENA, Md. — Eight women were sitting in the Pasadena living room of Fran Schmidt. They feasted on pasta with meatballs, veggies and chicken salad croissant sandwiches and had moved on to casual conversation flavored with beer, wine and soda when the products began to come out.

Party guests checked out the Mace Pepper Gun, which can shoot pepper spray up to 25 feet, key chain and lipstick-sized pepper spray and cameras disguised as kids' toys. They looked at advertisements for Tasers, which were available in two shades of pink. They passed around a disabled stun gun to feel how heavy it is.

It wasn't a Tupperware event, or gourmet food sale or even a lingerie party, but rather a Taser party.

Sharon Kluth, owner of Maryland Safe Defense, is the life of the party, passing around catalogs showing off items available from her supplier.

"There used to be a time when we could go out and if we parked under a street light we'd be safe," the Glen Burnie resident said. "Not anymore."

Kluth got on the path to selling self-defense products after being laid off two years ago from her office administrator job at Cingular after the company was bought by AT&T. With the help of her husband, Victor, she set out to start her own business, something she had always wanted to do. Security products was something no one else was selling.

"Being 60, it was going to be very difficult to find a new job, so we started looking at new avenues," she said.

She now conducts two or three Taser parties a week, selling most of her products to women, or to men who buy them for their wives. Men, for the most part, buy her surveillance equipment.

The firm is a member of the Northern Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce and was awarded best new business by the chamber last year.

Not everything shown during the evening was available for sale. County law prohibits the possession of stun guns and Tasers. But that didn't keep her from showing off Tasers still sealed in their plastic packages to her potential customers at Schmidt's house.

"People want to know what they look like and what the stun gun sounds like and that's the only reason I take them to the shows," she said.

Buyers who use her Web site must provide proof of residency, and Maryland Self Defense won't sell items in areas where they are banned, Kluth said. She keeps the items locked up when they aren't on display, and she said she's not worried about the ban. Despite the ban, there was a lot of curiosity about the devices, which come in everything from basic black to leopard print.

The party at Schmidt's house started with a little roughhousing.

At Kluth's urging, a guest grabbed her arm only to watch helplessly as the security expert demonstrated how to pull away with a twist of the thumb. Another demonstration showed a way to escape from a neck hold by bending back an attacker's fingers.
After the crash course in self-defense, Kluth circulated various pepper sprays. Her pepper spray is available in a variety of sizes and types, from pink lipstick pepper spray to the 9-ounce pistol grip Wildfire 18 percent pepper spray.

Most consumer pepper spray products can be used eight to 12 times depending on the size. When sprayed, they cover the assailant in an ultraviolet dye that can't easily be washed off, and Schmidt knew of some recent incidents in which pepper spray could have helped.

"A couple of women in Pasadena have been followed home from the grocery store and attacked in their driveway," she said.

She owns a small canister of pepper spray, the pet muzzle, which is a dog repellent, and the pet blinky, a flashing light that goes on a pet's collar for late night walks.

"I think the self-defense products Sharon has are important," she said.

Kim Mann of Annapolis travels the country for a restaurant supply company and said she owns the pepper spray three pack -- a 2-ounce home use pepper spray, a half-ounce car visor clip and a half-ounce key chain pepper spray.

"I have found myself in situations where holding my keys and pepper spray made me feel the situation was less threatening," she said.

In addition to self-defense products, Kluth sells a variety of home security products, from window alarms to hidden safes.

"There was just a need out there, I feel, for women," Kluth said.

Flower Pot Diversion Safe

We've found that it's often the obvious that is overlooked. At the end of the story about the Flower Pot Safe, you will find a bonus offer just for you.

Mike snickered. Sometimes his sister, Beth, had the craziest ideas. Mike was at Beth's home helping her to put her affairs back into order after her husband's death. Today, he was photographing her valuables for insurance purposes. Beth had taken out a new policy and she wanted to keep her own records. After Mike was finished with the pictures and preparing to head home, Beth asked him to wait -- she had two more items to photograph. She then pulled her wedding and engagement ring from inside the flower pot that held her Easter Lilies -- the same pot that held Poinsettias last December. Mike was humored and asked her about her choice of hiding places.

Beth generally kept the flower pot sitting on the kitchen counter when it contained flowers, and on the top shelf next to other empty pots when it didn't. Mike told her that he thought the flower pot safe was an odd place for her to keep her most beloved possessions. But, there they sat, right out in the open.

But Beth explained that the flower pot safe was, in fact, the safest place for her treasures. So safe, that her rings had recently eluded a burglar and a dishonest cousin. The burglar had found the silverware and the cousin recently took a fair amount of cash out of Beth's wall safe. The rings were not
touched. She asked Mike, "Where would a burglar or a thief look first?" After thinking about it for a moment, Mike had to admit that if he were a burglar, he wouldn't even think to look for valuables in a flower pot. He was pretty certain that a burglar would go through drawers and closets, or break into any obvious safe he or she came across.

As Mike drove home, he thought about the various reasons a flower pot safe, or any diversion safe, would be useful. He lived in a low crime area, but he had a lot of company and so did his three teenage boys. You'd like to believe that you can trust everyone, but the reality is that you simply can't.

Once he arrived home, Mike ordered two flower pot safes of his own.

Should you?

The Benefits of Installing Home Security Cameras

We were discussing the benefits of a home security camera recently with our neighbor and came away thinking…”gee, it’s more than just a security camera, in fact, it’s like a complete protection package against unwanted nasties!” The benefits are enormous and in today’s society, the cost almost becomes a non-issue. Go to Maryland Safe Defense for more information.

So what types of home security cameras are available and what will suit your situation? It’s important to decide exactly what level of coverage you need. If you live in a known hot spot area then you should consider solid coverage, both inside and out. Let’s be honest, a home security camera system is essentially a monitoring service and it’s job is to detect. Short of hiring the national guard, there isn’t a system yet developed that will actually physically prevent and apprehend intruders… not to our knowledge anyway.

For extra peace of mind though, a home security camera will cast a watchful eye over your most valuable possessions day and night and it’s this deterrent aspect that makes them such a valuable aid in the fight against crime.

The Camera Options

There are a variety of options available to the consumer: inside, outside or both, wireless systems and even fake cameras, yes, fake! While we mentioned earlier that cost should be a non-issue because of the benefits associated with having camera security unfortunately for many this is one issue they can’t avoid. So how about a fake camera system? They are extremely cost effective, they look like the real deal and more importantly, an intruder is going to think twice about entering premises with what appears to be a surveillance system monitoring it. Pretty cool huh!

Choose A Dome

Dome security cameras are an excellent choice for home coverage. Against the experienced intruder, they are effective because they are less obvious than most other systems. Dome cameras are ideal for both inside and outside and because of their ability to resist unfavorable weather conditions, their hardy nature makes them a prime choice for many home owners. If you are keen on having outside coverage then you need to choose a camera which will be resistant to the elements. If not a dome, then make sure you at least ensure whatever camera you use has an extra protective layer on it.

Go Wireless

Wireless systems have grown in popularity with the surgent technology boom. After all, no wires means less mess and no drilling into walls and home owners generally need no further convincing about their benefits. But if you have a compulsive tendency to check your home on a regular basis and you’re away from it hey, no problems, with a wireless security camera system, it’s just a matter of accessing it from a computer or even a smart phone! If you are away from the home and need to keep an eye on the kids, take your laptop with you and monitor them.

Intruder Alert!

If your home is still broken into despite security camera coverage all is not lost. Smart systems have the ability to motion sensor and as part of a home surveillance system, can alert police. The added benefit of recorded information gives you more chances of having a burglar apprehended as well as reclaiming your stolen property.

The home is in most cases, a persons most valuable material possession. Having the watchful eye of a security camera over it makes pretty good sense. Visit Maryland Safe Defense for further information.

Mace Pepper Baton

Following is a story how the Mace Pepper Baton was used. At the end of the story, you will find a bonus offer just for you.

Christy waited tables at a hip little bistro a few blocks from her apartment. Though she loved her neighborhood, she always prepared for the unexpected.

One night, one of the diners got a little out of hand. She could put up with rude customers, and she could even tolerate patrons who had a little too much to drink. She and her boss agreed that anyone who tried to lay hands on her or on any of the wait staff would end up enjoying the rest of their meal "to go."

So her boss ejected a customer who looked like a rumpled college professor after he tried to pinch Christy's bottom. The guy created a huge stink, but the customers applauded when he fell down the steps and landed on the sidewalk with a thud.

Later that night, after Christy banked out and counted her tip money, she headed back down the street to her place. She thought she heard footsteps behind her, but saw nobody when she swung around.

Another block away from the restaurant, she thought she heard a trash can rattle. Still, she couldn't see anyone in the shadows.

Only a few steps away from her building's front door, Christy heard someone sneeze. She whipped around to see the drunken customer from earlier that night.

He lunged at her, shouting, "I'll show you!"

Instead of bolting for the door - she wouldn't have made it in time, anyway - she pulled out her keys. Instead of a usual key chain, Christy carries a Mace Pepper Baton. It's small enough to fit in a purse, and durable enough to inflict pain on an attacker.

As the drunken patron grabbed for her hair, Christy ducked down and slammed the Pepper Baton across his kneecap. Wincing in pain, he buckled over and made another swipe at her. She retaliated by holding onto the baton and swinging her keys against his face.

Stumbling, the attacker made one last grab. Christy pointed the baton at him, unleashing its secret weapon - a blast of debilitating pepper spray.

Christy's attacker crouched on the sidewalk while she dialed 9-1-1 on her cell phone.

"Next time," Christy said, "stick to what's on the menu."

Sharon & Vic Kluth
